History
The Raisa Gorbachev Foundation was established by Evgeny Lebedev and Mikhail Gorbachev in 2006 as a not-for-profit organisation to commemorate the life of Mikhail’s wife, a generous and courageous woman, who helped hundreds of children.
Inspired by Raisa Maximovna Gorbacheva’s aim to find a cure for cancer in children, the Foundation is devoted to investing in the fight against childhood cancer mortality. We continue the work that Raisa began as well as to celebrate and commemorate her life and devotion to the cause.
Due to the enormous generosity of our supporters and patrons, the Foundation has raised £8.5 million since it was established. This has enabled great steps to be made to diminish the suffering of vulnerable children both in Russia and the UK.
Firm foundations have been laid; however, the challenges ahead are enormous. The Foundation remains committed to raising funds and will prioritise the core themes. With the help of our supporters we will continue to ensure that every pound/ dollar/ rouble/ euro will make a significant difference.
