Anastasia

Anastasia was born in Moscow, she is now fourteen and she is an only child. From early childhood she has been drawing and always creating things and was the top student in her class.

When Anastasia felt unwell in 2006 the doctors told her it was a cold. Eventually acute leukaemia was diagnosed. She underwent through a round of chemotherapy and was prescribed further supporting treatment. In a year’s time a relapse was detected.

In 2010, 20 packs of a specific drug were needed for her treatment. Anastasia’s parents could not afford to buy this medication; the Foundation provided the funding for treatment.

Anastasia went through a series of chemotherapy rounds and unfortunately a number of neurological disorders were diagnosed and treatment had to be stopped. In October 2010 Anastasia had a relapse and was referred to the palliative care team within the hospital. She spent her final months as home and continued to do the activities she enjoyed such as painting for as long as she could. Anastasia passed away on 27th December 2010.

Eighteen vials of the drug were left over from Anastasia’s treatment and five have been used already to treat two other patients Rita and Semyon.
